Mimic Disclaimer

Mimic does not mean we duplicate any particular mattress too it’s exact feel., because all brands use combinations of different density foams to achieve the particular feel for their mattress.  The major difference with all our DIY Mattresses is, in most cases, we replace polyurethane foams and memory foams with 100% “natural latex foam” as the comfort layer. Natural latex is the #1 comfort solution in the mattress industry and found in your luxury mattresses in the $3,000 and up price range.  In keeping with this design you create a more natural and “healthy” mattress.

Can I build an Avocado Mattress?

Short Answer:

Yes, you can build a mattress similar to the Avocado Green Mattress by sourcing the right components and assembling them yourself. Here’s a breakdown of the materials and steps you’ll need to take to build a DIY version of an Avocado-like mattress:

Advantages of Building Your Own:

  • Customization: You can tailor the mattress to your exact firmness, support, and material preferences.
  • Modular Design: If you don’t use adhesives, you can adjust layers over time as your comfort needs change.
  • Eco-Friendly: You can ensure that all materials are organic and sustainably sourced.

Cost Consideration:

Building your own mattress would save money compared to buying a pre-made Avocado mattress. The cost will depend on the type of latex, coil system, and cover materials you choose.

Disclaimer:

While you can’t exactly “build” an Avocado mattress since it’s a branded product, you can certainly assemble a high-quality mattress with similar components (organic latex, cotton, wool, and a pocketed coil system) to mimic the structure, comfort, and eco-friendliness of the Avocado Green Mattress.

Where to Source Materials:

DIY Mattress Components

  • GOLS Certified Latex:
  • Individually Pocketed Coils:
  • Organic Cotton/Wool Cover:

Steps to Build Your Own “Avocado” Mattress:

Choose Your Base:

Start by selecting your base layer, which can be either a supportive coil system or a latex layer. If you’re using a coil system, ensure it’s zoned for support and matches the size of your mattress (Twin, Full, Queen, etc.).

Add the Latex Support Layer:

Place a layer of GOLS-certified organic latex (2–3 inches thick, depending on your preference). Dunlop latex is more commonly used in eco-friendly mattresses due to its firmer, more durable feel.

Install Comfort Layers:

Add 1–2 inches of a softer organic latex or organic wool as your comfort layer. This layer should provide cushioning and pressure relief.

If you’re building a vegan mattress, you can replace the wool with an additional latex layer or a plant-based fiber like coconut coir.

Edge Support (Optional):

If you want to mimic the reinforced edges in the Avocado mattress, consider adding thicker coils or higher-density latex around the perimeter for durability and support when sitting on the edge.

Cover the Mattress:

Place your GOTS-certified organic cotton or quilted cotton/wool cover over the layers. Make sure it’s tightly fitted to keep the materials in place. Some DIY mattress kits offer zippered covers for easy assembly and adjustment.

Adjust for Firmness:

Test your mattress for firmness. If it feels too soft or firm, you can adjust by swapping latex layers or adding an extra comfort layer like a pillow-top made from softer latex.
