Build a Hybrid Mattress

Build hybrid mattress with pocket coils, latex, and memory foam.

DIY Basics of Building Your Hybrid Mattress

There are three primary components of any mattress: Support base, comfort layers, and cover. Hybrid mattress refers to a mattress built by combining springs and foams as compared to an all foam mattress or an all latex mattress.

There are 23 Hybrid Brands in our list of 50 Mattress Models, and has been the fastest growing type of mattress. Ninety percent of hybrids use pocket coils as the base support but in some cases a foam base is used and combined with latex as the top comfort layer.  We also consider this a hybrid as the two components fall into two different categories.

  1. Select your base support: We offer two options: 6″ Quantum Edge pocketed coil or 6″ High Density (HD) Certi-pur foam.
  2. Select your comfort layers: Your options for comfort layers are:
    a.) Dunlop latex- 2″ or 3″
    b.) Talalay latex- 2″ or 3″
    c.)  Memory Foam-2″ or 3″
    d.) Talalux latex- 2″ or 3″
  3. Select your cover:  Cover height is equal to the combined height of your layers.  As example a 6″ foam base plus a 3″ comfort layer of memory foam or latex would need a 9″ cover to enclose the two components.
  4. Select each layer and add it to the cart.  As you add each component to the cart, the cart will slide out so you can see the running total of your selections. This makes it easy to make changes as you build your mattress.

Step 3: Select Your Cover

Your cover should equal the height of your support and comfort layers. As an example, you would select a 9″ cover to encase a 6″ pocket coil support layer with a 3″ foam or latex comfort layer.
